Description: My sculptures are realistic abstract expressions of the horse and the human condition. I am interested in movement, both arrested and anticipated. I like to combine elements that may be related, but not necessarily seen together. A good example of this is 'horses, wings and wheels'. These elements symbolize movement, both physically and metaphorically. Because I put the horses in impossible situations, it is important that they are soundly designed both visually and physically. You have to believe in them or the possibility of them. When I have an idea, and then build the piece, I want to look at it and say 'That's the the coolest thing I've ever seen!'. I am also interested in the spacial relationships within the piece and the rhythm and contrast created from combining different materials. The materials I use are wood and mixed media including burlap, canvas, cotton, rice paper, wire and hemp twine. The pieces are fixed with dye and wood glue. They are then sealed with urethane. The sculpture will be shipped in the same custom made crates that I use to ship them to Nationally Juried Exhibits.
