Description: Cave Men was a primal experience for me. I was attempting to render rock literally. Tools in hand, I was transported instantly and remained that way, bent in determination for most of the day. I scraped and scratched and played until I had a breakthrough. When I was done I felt transformed, like I had tapped into the living vein that runs through everything. I had been rock, then sand, then water and yet somehow myself.
This painting was the first in my cave series. It was ‘born’ through experimentation with textures, sand and the palette knife. It is simple, yet has many marvelous little details that keep the viewer looking and looking.
