description: I was trying to create the sensation of a horse floating inside a finite environment. Somehow maybe to define the negative spaces arround it. Then it turned into sort of an icon of a television set. I didn't realize this until after I painted the 'set' blue. I don't ever have a definite meaning for an object while I'm making it. Usually it's just what it's about. Like, 'It's about floating' or 'it's about sitting'. While I'm making the piece I'm just thinking about spacial and textural relationships, and how to engineer and build it soundly. My work is made of wood and mixed media (copper wire armature, burlap, canvas, wire and hemp twine). The piece is then fixed with a mixture of woodglue and dye, then painted with acrylic paint where needed. The piece is then sealed with urethane. The sculpture will then be shipped in the same custom built crates that I use to ship them to Nationally Juried Exhibits.
