Description: This is a print of my pastel piece, Tennessee Sodbuster.
During the late 1800's (1865 and beyond) cattlemen and farmers didn't get along at times. In the cattle country of western United States, or "out West" as some would say, cattle driving was big business. When farmers moved into the region, herd drivers didn't like it because farmers had different ideas for using the land. Farmers where sometimes referred to as "sodbusters" by these cattlemen. Some of the farmers in this area migrated from Tennessee. Other Tennessee farmers were returning home from the Civil War, tired and just content to rebuild their lives back home.
