Description: This painting depicts the watershed of the San Gabriel River in Irwindale, California, located about 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. In the 1930's the Army Corps of Engineers built an earthen dam here at the base of the rugged San Gabriel Mountains, which form a majestic backdrop for this man made lake. In the intervening decades since the damn was first constructed, the surrounding area has become increasingly urbanized. This wetlands oasis in the midst of the city is a welcome watering hole for migratory flocks of Canada Geese, ducks, cranes and herons. However, it is literally surrounded on all sides by bustling freeway interchanges, urban sprawl, and factories like the Miller Brewing Company. It's a wonder the birds can find it at all! My hope is that my painting will inspire us to preserve these few remnants of dwindling natural areas from further encroachment industrial urban development.
"Rainbow at Sunset" Measures a generous 30" x 40" and is painted with oils on a gallery wrapped canvas. The image extends around the edges of the canvas, allowing you to display the painting without a frame, if you so desire.
