Established to present the life work of Aikero Kamata. Japanese painter; Although his family disapproved of his early interest in Western-style art, Aikero left his countryside village early in life to pursue his art training in Tokyo, Japan. A pupil at the Kobu Technical Art School and then at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music, Aikero was inspired by a long list of admired artists. Introduced to Antonio Fontanesi's past teachings at Kobu, Aikero mentions Fontanesi's oil styles and how they were dramatically different from Japanese styles. Although Aikero did not study directly under Fontanesi, it is his brave work that moved Aikero to attempt painting in bold colors. A brilliant and rather eccentric young man, he showed precocious talent exhibited in his work with the Kuroda's prestigious association of Western-style painters.
