Description:

This horse hair fired vessel also has feathers burned into the surface. A flawless piece. HORSEHAIR RAKU ……Horsehair pottery was originally a technique developed by the American Navajo tribe. My technique combines the traditional with contemporary western Raku.. I am still developing my own technique. During a Raku firing the pot is allowed to reach around 1600 degrees. At that time real horsehair (and sometimes feathers)are dropped and positioned on the pot allowing it to be burned into the surface. A lot depends on what I am after with that particular piece. I may have fired the piece previously using other techniques or the piece may have been burnished, that is polished with a stone to a high gloss and then fired. A heavily smoked piece requires burning other materials in the reduction chamber very carefully to achieve desired effect. shipping includes insurance.
