This stunning trumeau mirror with oil painting os one of a kind, entirely handmade. The oil painting was done by N.C. artist Brandi McKenna. Underneath a cerulean sky, a group of animals rest; cattle, a mother sheep and her lamb, and a little donkey. There are trees beyond the pasture and a little brook babbling by in one corner. The oil painting was painted on gessoed, artist grade hardboard.
Wood artisan Dustin Pearson (Brandi's sister) designed and made the frame specifically for this painting. The entire piece is a work of art done in collaboration by the sisters.
A special method of finishing was applied to the painting, rendering it crackled and as if it were in need of a cleaning, just as if it were centuries old. It would take an expert to know the difference, but it has been varnished to assure it will last for the years to come.
Dustin has experience and expertise in the art of wood restoration, both with architecture and antiques. Conversely, she knows exactly how to make new wood both appear and feel centuries old. Here she has hand painted, glazed and distressed the wooden frame after carefully building it out of poplar and birchwood.
