Description: A beautiful light filters through an open doorway in "Sign of a Passing World". A soft, upholstered chair sits facing an antique table, and rustic beams line the ceiling of this quaint chamber.
Tezh Modarressi approaches domestic interiors in a way that challenges the boundaries of traditional still-life painting. The result is evocative paintings that are simultaneously bittersweet, moody, and dramatic. Her compositions are at once rich and spare, with heart-wrenching treatments of light and texture. A single stick of furniture is left behind to tell its story of the inhabitants, who are never portrayed, but seem to always have just left the room.
