Description: “Let’s go” is an original piece painted in oils and melted wax. It is ready to hang with supplied hardware. The artwork is on medium weight, acrylic primed, cotton canvas. It has been stretched onto 56” x 46” heavy-duty stretcher bars and stapled in the back. The depth of the bars are 1 1/4”, so it is left unframed.
A layer of cream and yellow wax was brushed over oil paint in hues of raw sienna and lemon yellow. I have scraped away the wax in certain places and then sewn through the canvas with cotton thread, giving it a used and unraveled look. The canvas is covered in a polymer to keep the wax in place. Where there are deep grooves in the wax, I have rubbed in darker shades of burnt sienna, which brings out the texture of the image.
This is a semi-abstract, deconstructive piece, which is meant to set a tone, similar to music without words. The burst of warm color along with detailed texture arouses the more sentient side of ourselves. Two sketched figures at the bottom of the picture run swiftly into the future while pieces of cloth take flight at the top of the frame.
“Let’s go” is apart of a series called Static Line where clotheslines depict a kind of lifeline and the cloth that hangs over it is the soul. Signed and dated on back.
