Born and raised in the mystical Black Hills of South Dakota, Jeanne Apelseth was instilled with a deep-rooted passion for the Western way of life early on. Her love of nature and the out-of-doors fueled a desire to capture this wonderland and its creatures and characters with her photography and her art. As a professional photographer for over 20 years, Jeanne has discovered many forms of art in life and nature in her work and travels in Europe and in the United States. While working as a professional photographer and graphic artist in Norway, Jeanne was exposed to many new and different art forms and creative challenges. Her photography and design skills were vital in her online stock photography business, PhotoNet, which provided exposure for herself and several local Norwegian photographers while filling the advertising and art needs of clients including magazine ads, brochures, post cards, book covers, etc. Returning to South Dakota, Jeanne has continued to explore new art forms and photographic techniques. One of the art forms that she became intrigued with while living in Norway was the image transfer process. Her latest work is a combination of image transfer, photography and hand painting. This culmination of photography and graphic art experience allows her to explore her artistic talent and love of photography in a new and exciting way. Jeanne’s passion for nature and its creatures shines through in her work, whether the subject is a flower, horses, wildlife, landscapes, sunsets and sunrises, or even a simple spider in a web. While living in Norway, she captured many of the scenes and people and beauty of that land. Her interest in the Native American culture has led her to many Powwows to photograph the dancing and to try to capture spirit of the dance. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the Black Hills has provided her with many opportunities to focus on this colorful event. [
