I began studying art as a child in a scholarship art program at Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh; later as a teenager my studies were held at Carnegie-Mellon University. At college I majored in English and began writing fiction and poetry (see www.marksabawriter.com) but always made room for art electives. Recently, after many years, I began painting again. Recently, after many years, I began painting again. Twenty-five years of writing poetry has sharpened my intuitive and perceptive skills as a visual artist, and in my paintings I try to uncover the essence of my subject in the same way that I approach the subject of a poem.

I participated in New Haven's Open Studios Exhibit in the fall of 2007. One of my paintings was featured in Yale University's weekly bulletin to announce the event. I have been working as a medical illustrator and graphic artist at Yale's medical school for 15 years. [hide]
