LAUREL MOORE is a contemporary Listed English Artist. She obtained her Teaching Degree at the University of Portsmouth, England, with a specialism in 'The Arts' and 'Art History' in 1988.
Laurel Moore comes from a family of artists. Her uncle John Cooke was one of the original artist model makers on the British series "Thunderbirds" in the 1960's, which still has a cult-following today. He then continued his illustrious career as an artist for the British Natural History Museum, in London. Her other uncle works as a composer in Vancouver, Canada, and her cousin is a successful ceramics artist. As a child, Laurel sang with a choir at the Albert Hall in London and learnt to play the piano, accordion, and later alto and tenor saxophone. Whilst studying for her teaching degree in the 1980's her art lecture commented that " he didn't know what to do with someone with so much talent". Whilst busking (singing blues and playing tenor saxophone) she was talent-scouted by the manager of the "Holiday Inn" hotel chain to sing a regular gig with her blues band.
As a NEW and UP-AND-COMING artist you can find her original work on all the premier online galleries and in the Swiss galleries. Her work in now in collections all over the world.
Settling down and having a family allowed Laurel to concentrate on her art. It gave her the self-discipline to focus wholeheartedly on her art. Her move from England to Switzerland in 2000 with its mountains and valleys was a great inspiration to her artistic soul. Her aim as an artist, is to breathe life into a scene or a subject, so that it has a real 'presence' or 'life of its own' in the room which draws people in. Laurel aims to create life on the canvas, not so much with realism in her painting as with 'life-force' through the paint-brush; indeed if you think you can hear one of her dogs bark, then Laurel feels the painting is finally finished.
