Darrell George is a native to the Jersey Shore, (Long Branch, NJ) and received his BFA from the University of Delaware. He now lives in Catasauqua, where he works in publishing and produces art. As an art student and a football player on an athletic scholarship, Darrell was hardly stereotypical; he would eventually change his major and schedule to accommodate conflicts between class and practice times. However, he was confident that he would continue to paint on his own.
He says he knew that he wanted his work to express the celebration of life, step out among the people, and capture their smiles, gestures, and reactions to initiate a response on either a conscious or sub-conscious level. In his paintings, he seeks refuge in the human body and finds the ultimate expression of emotion is best depicted through the action of a figure.
”Understanding the figure helps me to feel that I have better control of the medium. By choice, I am able to manipulate what happens on canvas, making conscious decisions about the evolution and finality of the painting. There are a range of emotions felt and observed in a day, sadness, anger, frustration, or joy. They’re all in there. A story will be told.” [
