COWGIRL ART
By
Nance
Nancy must have been born with a pencil in hand, and she hasn’t stopped
drawing since. She graduated from Kent State University with a BA in Fine
Art and then moved to California, where she attended UCLA and Long Beach State.
“My goal, using a combination of mixed media and watercolors, is to make people, mostly women, smile. I do have a few male clients also. I want people to feel good about themselves and optimistic about the future.
When one collector of my work noticed one of my prints in their psychiatrist’s office, I was thrilled. I couldn’t imagine a better place for an uplifting lighthearted artwork to be displayed.
I chose the cowgirl theme because, to me, she symbolizes the wild and free spirit inside us all. My whimsical pieces hopefully convey this attitude”. My latest line of images contains cats with 1920 ladies because they go together well.”
Nancy has taught art in public and private schools. She has been involved in many group and one-woman shows. She receives awards each year for submissions to the Ventura County Fair. Her mixed media and watercolors can be found in many public and private collections throughout the USA, Canada, and Europe.
She and her husband attend many Old West shows. She has had one woman shows, group shows in California, Arizona, and Nevada. Several Western stores in Arizona carry her note cards. Her line of cards, prints and accessories can be viewed at her website: www.CowGirlArtbyNance.com.
We also do framing at a much lesser price than at a frame shop. We use barnwood and acrylic instead of fragile glass.
Nancy and her husband David and their cat Georgie live in Ventura, California.
I have two goals. The first is to keep my prices affordable so that the general public (not just those with a lot of money) can purchase my works.
The second goal is to convey my message through simplicity. My work is impression/whimsical not realistic.
I make use of various media to reach my goals. I may use parts of previous watercolors/prints to form collages. I have used collage materials from magazines or found materials from other sources to help project the image I want to do. I employ the use of ink, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, graphite, etc. Whatever meets my needs at the time of creation.
I aspire to finishing a painting every other day as possible. Before I think a piece is done I show it to my best critic - my husband who advises me when I have overworked something or some particular area or color of my picture isn’t working.
I listen to classical music as inspiration, and when I get too uptight I observe my cat that is lying prone on the sofa next to my workstation. What a calming influence he has.
My subjects include women, horses and cats. Some ideas come from photos and some come as I am working and see the image developed.
