Manuel Occhiogrosso was born in Hoboken, New Jersey and was raised in South Florida. He began painting landscapes at the age of seven and sold his first painting at age nine. As a young adult, Manuel set his brush aside to pursue an interest in architecture. He currently resides in Lake Worth, Florida, where, over the last thirteen years, he has established himself as accomplished architect. He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Miami and a Master of Science in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Returning to his first love, painting, Manuel fuses the two disciplines to create the gestalt that is present in his work.
Artist’s Statement:
I am a great admirer of the impressionists. The most conspicuous characteristic of impressionism was an attempt to accurately and objectively record visual reality in terms of transient effects of light and color. Utilizing the same technique, I evolve it into my own style using a more subjective approach. I am intrigued by contrasts and emphasize the duality that exists in nature by exaggerating light and color so they become more visible in my artwork and thus closer to what the viewer might actually experience subjectively in the real setting. Texture is also very important in my work. Firstly, the depth of the applications make the light reflect in a particular way, intensifying the light and dark, giving me the ability to control the light the viewer sees. Secondly, it adds expression to the painting, the viewer being able to notice the strength and speed with which I apply the paint. [ hide] |
