Being the son of a photographer, you'd think that deciding to be a photographer came naturally to me. Photography comes naturally, but being a photographer didn't. Being the son of a photographer, you'd think that deciding to be a photographer came naturally to me. Photography comes naturally, but being a photographer didn't. Growing up I wanted nothing more than to not be what my dad was. (No offense, Dad) When I was sixteen or seventeen I decided to take a photography class in high school. I found out that I had an eye for photography when the teacher said, "YOu got a good eye, guy". Oh and yes, that is an exact quote. So through the last two years of high school I took a lot of pictures. I would photograph anything and everything from the local rock bands to a sign that had a backwards "N" on it. My camera became an extension of me, and I spent a lot of money on film and developing.
The good times didn't last forever though. As life got more hectic, I stopped bringing my camera. I lived as a missionary in New Mexico for nearly two years and while I got some beautiful shots there, I also took less and less pictures until I took none the last three years I lived there. After a traumatizing bicycle injury in Albuquerque, I moved home to Minnesota in the summer of 2005, got a mind-numbing job and did nothing with my life for an entire year. As soon as I realized that I was on my way to being a "lifer" at the company and in Waseca, MN, I decided it was time to go anywhere else and do anything else. In July 2006 I enrolled in college to study Marketing and moved to Mankato, MN where I now reside.
At that same time I went on a road trip back to New Mexico and brought my camera with me. I got some great shots and caught the... um... bug? A month or two later I went out and got my first Digital Camera. It cost about $100, but I took some great pictures with it. However, March 1st 2008 I saved enough money to buy, what at the time was the camera of my dreams, a Nikon D40X. Now that I have it there is, of course, another camera of my dreams. that's just human nature. I've been able to get some really great shots with my new camera and it has opened a lot of doors for me and I hope to grow in my talents and soon be able to live off of photography. [
