About Janice
Painting is just another way of keeping a diary. ~Pablo Picasso
This is me: I paint what I like, what I see and what I feel. I express myself through color, texture and harmony....or lack thereof.
Primarily, I work in landscapes and I say "in" because I am constantly inspired by the beauty that surrounds us. I begin my paintings by drawing in with transparent red oxide. I was originally taught this method and have recently moved back to it, because I love how this color glows through my end results. [

I paint primarily on gesso or claybord and use H.J series filberts and M.Graham & Co. oils.
I am naturally quiet so my voice comes through my brush and paint to speak to people. My heart and soul is on my canvas. When I paint I feel I've bared my soul and hung it on a wall.
Painting to me is like music: It has a beginning a dramatic part and a calm ending. I am aware of this during my painting, if they don't work out, I rub them out and orchestrate again.
Currently, I am challenging my artistic ability by working on figurative paintings to capture certain people, special moments or memories I've had. I continue to paint daily and take workshops and paint plein air.
Born in Alberta, I currently reside in Colorado with my husband , 4 children and several dogs.
