Laura was born in Montreal, Canada in 1959. Trained as a commercial artist at Dawson College, she spent her early years working in illustration and design. With a strong desire to create art that reflected her own sensibilities, she left behind the commercial world to study traditional, old master painting techniques.
Since introducing her paintings to the world, Laura has gained a reputation for creating timeless images. While firmly planted in the present, her work embodies the enduring and universal, with figures and settings that reflect the unchanging nature of human experience. The viewer is enticed by her skillful use of light to illuminate a mood, a feature, a moment it time.
A member of the International Guild of Realism, Laura den Hertog has exhibited widely in North America, and the UK. Her paintings have graced the covers of various magazines and books and in 2005 she was featured and interviewed for PBS television. Her work is included in The New Reality: The Frontier of Realism in the 21st Century, a year long Museum tour in the USA.
The artist lives and works in a small town outside of Montreal. Her paintings can be found in exhibits and private collections worldwide. [
