KEITH ALLEN JOHNSON
Sculptor Keith Allen Johnson is a leader of a new generation of realistic and figurative sculptors. His stately portrait sculptures have earned him national acclaim for their heroic, larger than life realism. His original figurative works include a mix of realistic and historic subjects as well as fluid abstract works that bring life and vitality into the spaces they occupy.
With a bold and creative visual gift as his guiding force, Johnson is the only American sculptor in history to have created a collection of six life-size U.S. Presidents. His Presidential Collection displays a perfect sense of the artist's ability to capture the spirit and the likeness of his subjects in heroic proportion. His innate visual abilities guide him in the creative process as he seeks the highest and most compelling interpretation for his subjects.
In April of 1999, Johnson began the series of life-size Presidential sculptures. His first subject was a work of President Ronald Reagan. He has gone on to complete life-size portraits of George H.W. Bush, John F. Kennedy, Harry S. Truman, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and George W. Bush. Johnson's Presidential portraits have been heralded as the most life-like portraits of the Presidents ever created. His sculpture of Ronald Reagan has been accepted to the permanent collection at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. Johnson's earlier figurative works of NBA basketball players Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan are part of the permanent collection at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Johnson’s life size portrait bust of John F. Kennedy is on permanent display at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
With numerous private and public commissions to his credit, Johnson continues to build a loyal following of patrons across America. His sports sculptures have been on display at the original Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and The New England Sports Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His most recent life size works include the Henry Morrison Flagler Collection that comprises three historic sculptures of the famed real estate and hotel tycoon who founded the tourism industry in Florida. The Collection began with the Henry M. Flagler Bust and then flowed into the Henry M. Flagler Monument. The Flagler desk size bust soon followed. Johnson then targeted his creative energy to a commission from the Boston University of famed hockey Coach Jack Kelley. The finished above life size bust was installed and unveiled in 2008 at the new state of the art Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts.
Johnson’s vision for his future work is bold and ambitious. His most recently launched the Figurative Collection that began with a stunning new work entitled “Reach”. Johnson’s new Abstract Collection currently consists of two inspiring works entitled “Bloom” and “Spirit”. Johnson's work is a timeless art form that flows freely from his amazing creative gifts. He is a master sculptor who enjoys working in a full range of styles from the realistic to the abstract. When you look into the faces of his portraits, you are immediately captivated by the striking details, only to be struck again by the "living spirit" he so remarkably portrays. His figurative and abstract works are original and express a love of life and the hope of a bright future.
Johnson lives in Flowery Branch, Georgia with his wife Tracy and daughters Ashley, Lindsay and Mary Jo. [
