Shon Sharpe Chapman was born February 1st 1977 in a poor neighborhood in Norfolk VA. The son of a Jazz pianist and a Jazz Singer, it was immediately evident that he was artistically gifted.
After moving to the northeast, Shon was first discovered early in his High School career by his art teacher Bert Glassberg. Shon Sharpe Chapman was born February 1st 1977 in a poor neighborhood in Norfolk VA. The son of a Jazz pianist and a Jazz Singer, it was immediately evident that he was artistically gifted.
After moving to the northeast, Shon was first discovered early in his High School career by his art teacher Bert Glassberg. He was the first student in Peekskill High School to successfully take every art course twice. During His freshmen year he was selected to participate in the prestigious Garrison Art Center Mentoring program, with mentor Anne Osborn (1993). In his Junior year he was 1 of 400 NY State high School students to be selected to attend the NYSSA (New York State School of the Arts) summer program, at SUNY Ferdoina. (1994)
By the age of 18 Shon had already become a local success and had sold over a dozen painting, and had 2 one man shows in the Peekskill area. After receiving The Milton Carpenter scholarship, Shon was admitted to PRATT INSTITUTE in the Fall of 1995 and attended 4 years with a double major in communications design & art direction. While in college, Shon worked as a Creative Director for Gropius Design. Once finishing college he began working in advertising as a graphic artist with ad firms such as Lyons Lavey Nickle & Swift, Communications Plus, & Young & Rubican.
Shon Chapmanās art is can be described as soulful and emotional. His work explodes with color and life and is easily to see the strong Jazz influence on his work. [
