Returning to the canvas in 2005, painting has been my rebirth...a welcoming yet freeing experience.
Coming from a large family of accountants, bankers and traders, becoming an artist was not an option. I went to school to study Illustration/Graphic Design but found myself feeling trapped in the grids and lines. I began to look into other paths and it was in fashion design that I found an expressive, colorful, and free-spirited means to an accepted line of work. This is where I found myself happy for many years. I started my own atelier, catering to a high-end clientele. But then came a point where the business took priority over the art and eventually... me.
I returned to school to pursue other interests and a new career. Fulfilled in a new path in life, the artist in me still longed to express myself. This time without a need for "validation", without the pressures of the realities in life and without the stress of producing... I paint, and I paint, and I paint. I am free to paint!
The new found freedom I have learned to enjoy is that I can now express myself in my work and not regulate this expression as work. I have finally found my way out of the grids and lines. I don’t demand from my canvas… the canvas becomes one with me. I have become the tool and it is through me that the canvas evolves. I no longer need to start with a thought, but now end with one...how wonderful. [
