John Fitzgerald’s artwork is inspired by his northern California world. His unerring eye and metaphysical imagination are evidenced through the ever-changing subject matter of his paintings. They represent the convergence of creativity, nature, and the spirit.
In an “artist statement” he wrote: “Some ideas and experiences are worth committing a lifetime to. These works you see were born in the hope that creative ideas, expressed well, can become illuminating in time. Currently, my work embodies intuitive responses to form and color which fuse to interpret visual images and spiritual awareness. The works are derived from the belief that matter and energy are manifestations of the same force. Painting the fabric that connects these two forms offers me continual variations in subject and style, and remains the direction of my focus.”
In a review of his artwork, a critic wrote: “John is a man of principles, solidly devoted to his art. He is an artist who refuses to succumb to those luring temptations which might have induced him to alter his course. He is a man who possesses that incomparability to maintain his integrity while he consistently strives through visual means to explore and express what lies inside of him.” [
