Katie is a multimedia artist who does abstract painting, quilting, botanical art, ceramic and among many other things! With a Masters Degree in Studio Art, her style of works is almost exclusively in the realm of abstract expressionism. To her, abstract is about using and manipulating colors, lines, forms and shapes that help to express and transform the artist’ present stage of mind and feeling during the process of creation. As an artist, she thinks color is one of the most powerful tools to make a painting presentable. She has been traveling to many countries. Some of the recent paintings were done after she traveled to Egypt this year. She said, “Mythologies and artifacts of old cultures excite me.” She also found excitements in the revelation of balance, order and peacefulness within things that appear to be chaotic. She referred it as “orderly chaotic”. To her, “chaotic” is just a superficial layer of energy that happens to be covering up the true beauty under. Her paintings reflect indeed what she believes.
Katie is the current President of the Associated Artists’ Gallery. Her works are available at the following places:
Associated Artists’ Gallery, 715 S. University Ave., Carbondale
Little Egypt Arts Center, 601 Tower Square, Marion
