Marlene was born in Wisconsin and lived on a farm. From a very early age she loved to draw. After her father's death, her family moved to the west coast where she spent her young adult years in California and Oregon. Unable to go to a formal art school, she sought out local art classes. Her first class in oils changed her life. She was now able to put to canvas the beauty that surrounded her.
