Originally schooled in the arts in the High School of Music and Art in New York City, my artistic career was delayed until recently by my becoming an Architect.
As a practicing architect in New York and New Jersey I was given many awards for the excellence of my building designs. Needless to say I kept up with my artistic development throughout my successful architectural career.
In 1999 I retired to Florida but not being able to remain in this idle capacity, I was retained by the University of Miami as the University Architect. It was here, in the University School of Art, that I rekindled my artistic bent. I kept up with figure drawing under the tutelage of Professor Brian Curtis and then devoted myself to printmaking with the guidance of Lise Drost who is now the Chair of the Art Department.
I am fascinated with the ability to create abstract compositional arrangements with the human form, even though the forms are rendered realistically. The lithographic process enables me to convert this interest of mine into the black and white (and sometimes some color) printing process and the use of the new aluminum plate method has eased the whole experience.
At the University I met an Australian artist who teaches at the University of Western Australia. He was a visiting guest "artist in residence" for a semester and we became great friends. Because of him I became a guest artist to his University, offering philosophical guidance to the BFA program there.
Having retired from the University, but still a welcome guest at their Art School, I have continued with my lithography, using their facilities. But because of the small size of the lithographs, I decided to enlarge the scale of my work to heroic proportions by diving into oil paintings with a technique that gives the surface of the canvas a scintillating feeling so that the forms do not become boringly smooth and even.
I have displayed my work locally and have garnered many awards from shows at the Boward Art Guild in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Presently my work can be seen at the Uncommon Gallery in Fort Lauderdale and at Grace's Gallery in Dania Beach - both in Florida. [
