When asked about her work, Haines states that painting is a ‘release without boundaries’ – her 'magical hideaway' where she recedes from everyday distractions to create from plein aire sketches, drawings and other references which she plans to complete in her studio. She states that many creative ideas within each painting are formed through a group of shapes and fleeting light effects or a dramatic splash of colorful brushstrokes to brighten nature’s raw materials.
Virginia enjoys the freedom of watercolor painting because of the unpredictable flow of color in 'wet-in-wet' techniques and faster drying results.
She enjoys oil painting which also lends great spontaneity but slower painting process with the buttery consistency of the paint more manageable for subtle, descriptive oil paintings.
Haines is an instructor of both watercolor and oil painting workshops where she instructs students at all levels.
Virginia welcomes new challenges and remains in touch with today’s art trends and contacts with other thriving artists. She is a member of the Mid-Southern Watercolor Society (MSW), the Artists of Northwest Arkansas (ANA), The Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA), Associate Member of the Arts Center of the Ozarks of Springdale, AR, and member of the Hill Country Art Gallery, Inc. in Mountain Home, AR. She was honored in 2004 by invitation to display two paintings in the Arkansas Senate Art Gallery at the State Capitol in Little Rock, Arkansas. [
