Self-taught artist.
"Art has always been a huge part of my life". At age 11, in 1961, my family fled Cuba and in 1962 my mother sacrificed to surprise me with an unaffordable gift of painting supplies, with a birthday card saying "Make your dreams a reality".

By the time I turned 15 years old, a good friend of the family was captivated by one of my first abstract paintings and persuaded me to sell it to him. At that moment was the start of the "word-of-mouth" exposure that helped me gain recognition and appreciation as a true artist.
I create American and Latin American influenced works of art that incorporate traditional and unique painting styles and techniques. Being a self-taught artist, without any art schooling what so ever, my work are not constrained to a single category. My artwork includes: abstract, contemporary, land/seascape, figure, still life, and pencil drawings.
My artistic talent don't stop at painting - although this is my true passion. In the past, I have produced exquisite works including commissioned mosaic tiling, wood-burning designs, and murals. I often do volunteer work painting mural for children's hospitals and other charitable organizations.
My paintings have been sold to private collectors mainly through the "word-of-mouth" exposure and at major art festivals around the country. My work can be found all over the United States, Latin America, Canada and throughout Europe.
What does art means to me? I could take forever, but I'll try to put it simply: "It's love - if you feel the love for the art while expressing yourself with each brushstroke on the canvas and can feel the rush going through your veins, then you are an artist".
What is my inspiration to do my artwork? I would have to say; nature, the diversity of the human beings in this planet, different cultures and the Universe.
Through my life I have done different type of arts, but lately I found myself falling in love all over again with art and going towards the more contemporary style.
As a tribute to my beloved mother, each of my paintings are signed O.Uz or Ofelia Uz on the canvas, she always gave me the support and strength to continued my ongoing journey as an artist.
Being a caregiver to my husband which he is paraglegic, a working mother, and painting which is a huge part of my life; it has been difficult, but I have managed somehow to do it. Now I'm doing what I couldn't do before, so over 40 years later, I'm having my first art showing in San Antonio, Texas. "Dreams come true, if you want them deep enough in your heart"
