Joan A Brown is a contemporary landscape painter who was born in London, England, and grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where her artistic talent was recognized and encouraged at a young age. Joan had a typical school experience, her favourite classes being any that allowed her to express herself artistically.
She accepted her first award for honours in art near the end of her sixth year of school and commenced her professional career as a graphic designer in 1998 before concentrating regularly on being a landscape artist in 2003.
“I endeavour to continue expanding my knowledge of the medium while sharing that knowledge with those desiring to tap into their own creative minds. For me the ultimate satisfaction comes from just being able to do what I do, and for that all credit goes to the grandest artist of all, Almighty God who created the most awesome landscape of them all, our beautiful earth.”
Joan uses her photographic memory and life experiences to produce vibrant, realistic images of mountains, lakes and trees unique to Canada. This picturesque environment directly inspires much of her work, while other pieces are depictions of her various travels. She held her first solo show in Senigallia, Italy in 2003 and had her works represented in Corniceria Angelini, Gallery near Ancona, Italy.
“My biggest motivation for starting a piece is seeing a location in Canada that I really like. I'm most attracted to scenery-type subjects, especially landscapes, seascapes, and sunsets. Most of my paintings are about these topics.”
Joan sees a collection of her paintings worldwide through various auctions. She currently teaches landscape painting at her home studio and Michaels Arts & Crafts in Edmonton. [
