Artist Statement Each day I pass an apartment building; it’s peeling green paint creating rich textures and organic shapes. Graffiti on the wall gives a voice to those lacking one. Walking a bit further west, I pass an old dumpster; its blue paint faded after years in the sun. The serial numbers that identify it are now barely legible. In a hurry to reach my destination, I cut through a parking lot. On the pavement are drips and splashes of orange paint. Was this eye catching color left behind by a careless worker? [see more]

Artist Statement

Each day I pass an apartment building; it’s peeling green paint creating rich textures and organic shapes. Graffiti on the wall gives a voice to those lacking one.
Walking a bit further west, I pass an old dumpster; its blue paint faded after years in the sun. The serial numbers that identify it are now barely legible.
In a hurry to reach my destination, I cut through a parking lot. On the pavement are drips and splashes of orange paint. Was this eye catching color left behind by a careless worker?
Although I grew up in a small Southern town, it was always a city where I felt most alive, inspired by rich urban images; complex, multi colored layers of an old billboard, patterns and variations on surfaces, and deep rusty bronzes of old signage. Years of photographing the city landscape evolved into self taught abstract paintings. Currently living in Chicago, I title my body of work Urban Origins Art. Numbers and letters are featured in my work. Urban environments are abounding with numbers, and everyone has a relationship with them. My titles are often addresses or urban phrases. My work is acrylic and mixed media on canvas, often incorporating spray paint for an edgy feel.
