Our fragile world of computers
I like this article from Business Week about what happens when computer networks go down.
At BoundlessGallery.com we are hosting our servers at a company called InetU. They have been superior in the uptime and quality of their support for us. We choose them for this reason, their reputation is as either the best place to host your webpage, or one of the best.
I know companies that have a T1 line, a few servers, a support person, and fancy power solutions. We figure that it costs less then a T1 Line to host our whole server solution. We can spend the extra money on having more programmers.
When you are running a 100% online company, you read articles about possibilities of huge internet failures and it isn't a good feeling. On the other hand, you read lots of stuff in the press about the crash of the North American economic system. We haven't seen it yet and I'm guessing we aren't going to see it anytime soon. I guess there are worse things then not having internet for a few days. I could finish a piece of furniture if it went down for a week, that would be kind of fun.
Your comments are always welcome.
