Interesting artist - Will Anderson

I was checking out the site today and ran across Will Anderson again. On this rainy day here in Southern Illinois his work really reached out and grabbed me. I like his use of color and playfulness. His drawings of people are really interesting and he captures something in the subjects.

Anyone else have an artists they have found on the site that speaks to them?

A Better Postcard - at least it makes me want to see the show.

I blogged about a postcard to an earlier show and thought it didn't do much to bring buyers to the opening. Here is a postcard that I received recently that makes me want to go see the show. Bright color and clear visuals telling a buyer what is being offered. The show is by Southern Glass Works.

It doesn't have mystery, but this card does show fantastic execution of a few pieces.

What do you think, do you like the earlier one better or this one? I'm going to go see this show and pick up an item or two for people on my Christmas list.

Pumpkin carving online - just in time for Halloween.

Jack! -- Happy Halloween. This works extra well if you are pushed for time and have a notebook computer. You can just put the notebook next to the door, so when the trick or treater's arrive you can hand out your treats knowing you have decorated.

Only a week to go, time to start working on the costume.

CD Zapping? Is it art?

I found a website where CD's are zapped in a microwave oven. The results are kind of beautiful and interesting.

Generally, I try not to think about what is art and what isn't. I don't think it is my place to say, I am allowed to decide what I like and don't like. This is different, you take a mass produced object and use a tool without any skill to change it, I don't think this is art.

I know a woman who takes pieces of metal and uses a machine to stamp patterns (with great skill) on them, that is art I'm sure. I have seen machines where put in a penny and 3 quarters, turn the crank and a penny is squished into a shape, that is not art. Clearly zapping CD's is different than pottery that you make and put into fire to have a unique effect in the glazing.

Is an meteor you find on the ground art? No one manipulated it, so maybe it is an interesting object? I don't think a meteor is art.

What do you think, are zapped CD's art or not?

DNA11 Joins BoundlessGallery.com - personalized art

DNA11 is a company out of Canada that creates art out of the customer's DNA or Fingerprints and ships them directly to your door. They are getting lots of press and have an interesting and exciting product line.

One of things that has made me stop and think, they offer is art personalized especially for the customer. I had a long chat with Adrian (one of the founders) and he has me pretty convinced that buyers love to have things made especially for them. We the same idea with our custom art feature. Personalized art has been the bread and butter of artists for centuries, portraits of the rich are always in fashion. DNA11 has created a modern technology version.

It would be pretty cool to have a complete set of your own finger prints on your wall.

Check their stuff out and comment on what you think.

Better marketing through youtube.com?

I have been thinking about how to do better marketing for artists. We are planning to add a page that allows artists to show their step by step process of creating work. I was wonder if anyone was making a film of the process and posting it on youtube.com or ifilm.com to get more exposure for their work. After a very brief search, this movie is what I came up with as an example. It isn't very good, but it seems to be possible to do something much better without much skill.

Art is such a visual media, maybe a movie would help internet sales? Should we include a feature to allow you to post a film or link to it off BoundlessGallery.com?

The Show Announcement - What is the goal?

I received this invite to an art show of some sort the other day and thought I would share it with you. After getting the email that contained it, I looked at this image several times and tried to figure out what was being shown. I couldn't figure it out.

Is this a piece from the show? I assume he isn't going to get a lake into the back room at the coffee house?

When you are trying to earn people's attention, does whimsical work or should you put a piece of your art front and center?

I had something else to do and skipped this show. If I liked the postcard I might have gone. Now we will never know what the show was about.

Anyone have a good postcards that would make someone want to see a show to share?

The art finder is now attached to our main search

Try it out, please let us know if we got it right.

I think it is pretty darn good.

So you want to collect art?

When I started collecting, I was told to go out and look at everything. Develop your taste, see what you like and then buy. That made sense and that is what I did.

The theory I had was you needed to look at around 1000 pieces to get started and you gained more knowledge about what you liked every 1000 pieces. This leads to sore feet. It is hard to view 1000 pieces of art efficiently in person. If you see 50 pieces per gallery, you have to go to 20 galleries to see 1000, that takes a long time and in most places it isn't possible in one day.

This is one of the advantages of using BoundlessGallery.com. You can look at over 1000 pieces of art in one sitting. Most of the people who buy art using BoundlessGallery.com are looking at a lot of pieces before pulling the trigger, more pieces than 10 art galleries can hold. We think this is what makes the internet the best place to shop for art, great variety in one place.

The picture is "COSMOS" a painting by Stephan Senghor (St.Ghor). I have always loved his work and he is a really fine gentleman based on a our phone conversations.

Interesting article about the Mona Lisa

This might be something that only an art loving computer geek likes, but here is a CNN article about study of the Mona Lisa.

The Boundless Team writes about what's new at BoundlessGallery.com and other art-related topics.
