MikeS makes the local student paper.

Our longtime programmer/student worker/Intern Mike made the local student paper because he was the captain of the SIU Cyber Defense team.

Mike has been with us for 2.5 years. He recently completed the Studio Tour feature and has been working on an update of our directory feature of late. As it turns out I went to college with Mike's Mom back in the day, we were both CS majors at SIU.

I haven't asked, but with wouldn't surprise me if JohnW our other longtime programming student was on the team, but I didn't see him listed in the article.

Congratulations Mike on the nice accomplishment.

Street art - cool works for free.

I ran across this Time page and thought you might enjoy it. It is interesting to see these great art pieces right next to random spray paintings from people who are just marring the walls.

The picture is a print (from a painting) by Craig Adair called Urban Contemporary #6. I like how it is difficult from a distance to tell if you are seeing a painting or photograph.

Can Photographers Be Plagiarists?

From Slate the online magazine. Check out the slide show, it is fascinating.

We have on a few occasions had a complaint about a work on our site being a copyright violation. We have a copyright violation policy that we follow when this happens, see it here.

I always wonder about the issue brought up in this Slate article as this process goes forward, is it just the same general style or is it really a copy? There is a tradition of buying copies very cheap on a street corner from student artist in many cities in the world, it can still be beautiful and skillful. Of course, the copy is clearly illegal and violates the orginal artists hard work, vision and skill. Reminds me of music and movie pirating.

A complex and interesting idea to think about.

Studio Tour feature is up!

We have added a new feature for artists to show pictures (and descriptions) and a video stored on youtube.com of their studio space or some other aspect of their work in a more free form way. We are still working on refining it a bit, but it works and is ready for use. Sharon Cummings has already made a tour that shows the power of this new feature pretty well. I have included a photo that Sharon has in her tour here.

You can upload your pictures, the title them and write a short description. You can change the name from "Studio Tour" to something else you feel is more appropriate.

We are about the add the following refinements - limit the pictures to 8 and add the ability to change the order of the pictures.

Please give it a try and show potential buyers a little of your personality and style. We think it will help you sell more art.

Your comments are always welcome and your ideas about how to make this feature better would be helpful.

We have a constant steam of artists who want more exposure on BoundlessGallery.com, so we have added a feature called "artist showcase" on the homepage. We seem to have someone signed up and hogging the space right already. For $1 per day (3 day minimum) you can get into the rotation to get a share of a large number of page views.

Here is the direct link to find it, you can find it in your provider account admin page or looking under "Inventory."

Your comments are welcome.
