It can be all about the media - Lego Art

I caught this guy's feature piece on cnn.com's video collection. Clearly, the work is good, but how much extra exposure does he get, because he is building with lego's, instead of sculpting clay?

What a great hook to attract media attention, could you get a national story by doing art in something more unusual?

Check it out.

Providers, please update your colors

We have started the move to a better and more powerful use of color on the site. Would you please go log into your account and update the colors for your pieces, if you are a provider. Doing it now, will help us fine tune the final product. We think we will have the best use of color, before long and the conversion screens are pretty slick.

Thank you for your assistance and let us know what you think.

War protester gives up her protest

I generally don't do politics on this blog, but found this quote to be worth discussing here. "Cindy Sheehan, the California mother who became an anti-war leader after her son was killed in Iraq," she wrote,
Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives.
Ouch, that is a little close to truth here in America. I read an article recently that the Iraq War costs the USA less then 1% of the GNP, where the War in Vietnam cost well over 10% of the GNP. In other words, we don't feel the financial pinch because of the Iraq War and so it is a lot easier to ignore.

We started BoundlessGallery.com knowing that America is a rich country and that there were buyers out there who wanted high quality, original, reasonably priced art, and we could help them find it. The same rich culture that can afford the Iraq War, can afford art. We can also afford so many things, we need bigger houses and lots of self storage units.

Maybe it would be better if we could feel the economic pinch of Iraq more closely? It might be easier to find a solution by looking for a win-win, instead of a bang-bang. I would sure rather have the government solving the solar energy, wind energy or clean coal problems, then defending our rights, to a bunch of crazy people's oil.

Of course, your comments are welcome.

How to make big money selling fake art on ebay?

A friend sent me this link and I realized it wasn't a joke (or is it?). I know this is why it is better to sell original art, by original artists, and not resell "old masters."

Anyone had an experience with this and want to share?

Winners of the Smithsonian Magazine photo contest

Wow, some fantastic work here, check it out for yourself. Normally, I might point out one or two things that really stood out to me, but every shot is so strong in this collection. Really impressive.

The art of waste

Just found the link to the work of Chris Jordan. I really liked this collection of masses of trash and they they represent. Check it out.

I'm wondering how he does it? He must be Photoshopping right?

Art fair season kicks off in Midwest.

There is a really nice art fair in Belleville, IL this weekend called Art on the Square. A neat story about an artist going into the schools and working with the students on art innovation, that is linked to the art fair in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch today. I kind of wish they had shown us some art online and not just picture of people (but that could just be me?). I'm going to try and sneak up there and check out the show.

I'm not qualified to go help teach kids art in school, I limit myself on how to be a software guy and start companies. I seem to attract a job shadow from the local high school every year or two as well. Interacting with the local students is a good way to give back to the community I was raised in.

Anyone else going to the fair? How about going into the schools and sharing your skills with the students?

Painted with Oil - store in Las Vegas Mall selling Chinese art

I was helping an old friend work a trade show booth last week in Las Vegas and needed to bring something home for the kids, so I was walking the mall.

In the very back of the Mall was a store called "Painted in Oil." It is stuffed full of "original" oil paintings. The paintings seem to be sold by size and there were a whole bunch of canvases in there.

I should have taken notes about pricing, but it seems like $375 bought you a 3' X 2' piece, stretched on wood frame, with a painted, wrapped edge.

Anyone have any experience with "Painted in Oil." Some pieces looked similar to other works I have seen. Some were pretty good, but it sure seemed like a front for an art sweat shop, setup deep in some poor area in Asia, to me.

Is it art? Spencer Tunick's mass nude photography

I know it is art, but I like the title anyway. Caught this piece on CNN.com and looked up a couple of pictures online (couldn't quite figure it out from the mini CNN shots).

I don't think I understand the statement being made by this series of works. Our local university had a massive Twister Tournament recently, are pictures from that event art too?

What do you think? Ready to give up your current work, for doing photos of massive numbers of nude people?
