Momoko,
You were great to post this...we all wonder how it has been working for you. Options are always important. So thanks for sharing these details.

I think artists who have lots of works on paper should invest on this option. It sucks if you have lots of pieces you have to "upgrade" to the custom-frame-able option, but the part of the problem with works on paper is that it's not ready to hang.

I think ordering frames and mats online is better because you can see how it is going to look, with variety of colors of mats and frames, whereas if you do the framing in a traditional local framing store then it's hard to picture how it is going to look as a whole.

I recommend this option only if you are willing to work extra by communicating with framing company and get on top of it.

I warn you that no one is going to put the tracking number to your order database, and you don't know the tracking number because you are not the one who is shipping to the buyer. So you would have to GET it somehow by communication. The framer is totally out of this BG network even though they work with BG.

And the other things I should be careful is that sometimes I just assume that it is, say, 11x14. I does look 11x14 so I list it as 11x14. When I measure it, it can be different. It could be 10.5x13.5 or something... It becomes a problem if custom frame is ordered according to the dimensions you provided to the BG database and it actually is not the size stated in the database.

An artist who has too many unsold items, like myself, gets confused with sizes because there are just too many things on the plate. I have a lot more pieces that I have not even listed in here in the BG yet.

So I am going to measure the pieces that are listed here and will upgrade all of my works on paper and prints to frame-able. It's a lot of work, though.

It's probably because frame order is rare, things were confusing. But I tell you what to expect.

When the final product is delivered to the buyer, you'll receive a notice from BG that says since the order is non-refundable order the payment will be processed soon.

That is not the case. You'll still have to give one week from the date of delivery of the merchandise.

It was confusing just because I got an email (the one BG's robot sends you to let you know the shipping status) telling me the payment process being different from the regular orders.

Payment/Delivery rule is the same as any other order.

I want to know if the framing option thing will go on.

I've been having difficulties posting items with framing option. It is a lot of work to put items as framing. If it's a temporary problem, that's fine, but I need to know because it takes so much time and effort to post items as frame-able.

I have hundreds of unlisted items and trying to post them all.

Thank you.

Thanks for letting us know all about your framing order Momoko. Sounds like a bit of a hassle to have to go through all that. Early this summer I mounted a bunch of my paper works on canvas. I took time but now they are all ready to hang and they look good. Plus it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Today I finally received the check for the frame order.

I still think works on paper has a good potential in market. I also know that some collectors like to have their freedom to chose how they frame it and enjoy the process of the art being framed.

Also, I want some of delicate images being in frames than being exposed to the air... Plus, I already have too many works on paper, so I have no choice than trying to sell them....

Momoko,
Thanks again for the details processes.
Don't forget that those works on paper are also great for the portfolio at your area art shows. Some people just want the art......and decide later whether they want to frame it. After the piece was purchased, the buyer could still photograph it and upload it to the frame company online themselves.
With the picture gizmo that they offer, they can experiment directly. And this would also be an option for anyone buying a piece online.

By the way, I love BG's "clone" feature of the inventory. Many of other art sites don't have "clone" feature so I have to input so many tedious info, like classification and etc., over and over again to post multiple of items.
