I thought I would open this up as a separate discussion just to simplify things a bit.. for reference here is the start of the conversation from the Boundless is Great but.. discussion |

*****Jennie Rosenbaum saidat 11:08pm on November 29th, 2007*****Thanks Luke, I'll give that a try! *****Luke Terpstra saidat 10:48am on November 29th, 2007*****Hmmm, thats a tough one Jennie. For now maybe what you could do is list the piece twice. 1 would be-'PIECE TITLE - STRETCHED' and the other 'PT-UNSTRETCHED'. And then in the description of the stretched one tell customers they can save money by buying the unstretched... get what I mean? Its certainly not the best solution, and I'll think about a way we could help you. You'd just have to be organized and remember to remove both when it sells. *****Jennie Rosenbaum saidat 12:08am on November 29th, 2007*****I would love to see additional shipping options. Due to my location it costs less to ship de-stretched pieces and I would really like to give customers the option to easily select stretched or de-stretched. I currently manage it in the options section but I think it looks confusing - it really doesn't work for canvasses. if there was an option that asks the customer if they would like the piece stretched or unstretched so they can easily compare shipping costs and then confirms it in the next step that would be excellent! |

ok! I've put a few up using Luke's suggestion - putting a piece up as stretched and as de-stretched - tell me what you think! is it less confusing this way? |

I had a thought of changing around categories for stretched and de-stretched as well to separate them out and make it a little clearer - but I can only have one category per work. I thought the sub categories would be the perfect solution but they don't seem to be working on the main profile pages. if I add something to a sub category it just disappears from the main category all together. is that a bug? or am I missing something? |

Jennie, I really think the best way would be to add it as an option, meaning sell the painting rolled and the customer has an option to add the stretched canvas order. If you're worried it will confuse buyers, add a clear, or BOLD note in the description, that stretching cost extra and they need to add the option or contact you directly with any questions. I also sell rolled canvas, and I'm not adding the option even because the canvases are too large to ship stretched, but I write a note in the description saying I can stretch it for someone who can pick it up locally. I WOULD NOT add a different listing, (and yes, it is confusing - people will ask themselves - how come she has two of the same? is it really an original or a print? is she some kind of a robot that makes the exact same original painting again and again???) if you are selling an original and not a print, just add it as an option, and I think it is set up perfectly. I wouldn't mess around with categories either, they have to do with the type of art, not form of shipping.... |

I pretty much agree with Jennie that having 2 up will confuse buyers. I find they are EASILY confused. I think having it the options is best for now AND having it stated CLEARLY in the description should suffice. |

My only question is, if a collector/customer is prepared to spend $650 on a work of art, will a $20 reduction in shipping cost really matter to them? |

LOL! I feel the same way, which is why I worry. I want there to be minimal confusion all up. sometimes I feel like my high shipping costs are a concern. some works are too big for postal regs anyway but I have a selection that are in the inbetween stage. the reality of the shipping costs is much higher than what I have entered in. it usually costs between $50-$80 to send from here. My concern is, the Options section isn't really that obvious and the option box size is very small so everything is sort of squished and odd. I do have some works listed that way - Truth for example, but I don't think it works either. there has to be another way! I wish I could state it in Bold, but unfortunately code is written out by default - it would be nice to have some formatting options (and in here as well guys! ;) I know there are some big things planned for the listings so I guess the question is... what is the best option now? How can I communicate the options best (and clearest?) and, if any other Australian artists are reading, how do you keep your postage down? |
