I love this feature but I'm concerned about so many things. Does the artist suffer for errors in the framing process?
Do the walls change colors?
Does the same frame style and mat color transfere to all other paintings or is it individual? Yikes? Luke????

I see that artists will "pay" for a bad framing job with a. negative feedback and b. loss of repeat customers

You choose individually.

I was reassured by Luke that we are not going to be penalized unless we do something really extreme...like take a 18x24 and call it a 8x10...fraction of inches will not count.

Unfortunately, we cannot control what a customer says in Feedback. Let's say that they like the painting, but the frame is crap. You might get a neg/neutral FB because the customer doesnt think of you as an individual. They think of BG as a whole and leave FB.

I see your point Sharon- It only takes one negative comment to detour a customer. If I took accurate measurements, then I should not responsible. But even without the framing, complaints are possibly going to happen. I'm just gambling to see if that 20% commission works.

For me I dont want another step where something can go wrong. But I will watch others that use it and wait to see what happens.

Hey guys,
It sounds like you're reacting as we hoped.

Some are excited at the prospect, and we believe some customers will love the idea of getting it all in one step. And may only buy a piece they can frame even if another comes 'ready to hang'.

There is the other side, of adding another stage where something bad can happen. It's why we left the decision up to the artists, it's your work after all!

We would love to have the money to do the framing ourselves, because we know we'd do it right, but we're still a small business and that's not realistic at this point.

So there is some risk involved, but there's also the 20% share and maybe increased sales for those who participate.

We've added rules and restrictions that you guys might not be aware of yet, that we hope will help prevent some of these problems.

1) No Returns on Framed Orders. If a piece is ordered and framed the customer cannot just return it, no questions asked.

-If damage occurs at any stage we'll work with appropriate party and help them get reimbursed by the carrier.

-If the framer makes any error on the frame or work, their obligated to replace or refund the money.

-If it all goes to heck Boundless will pay the money to make it right, and sh!t-can framing as quickly as we can.

I predict that it will have some bumps but become a part of Boundless, and help photographers and print makers especially.

To answer Melinda's questions,
Customers will be able to change the wall color displayed behind the framed image to what ever they like.

The frame and mat style you choose in your inventory will be displayed only on that 1 piece. The customer will see your default options as the recommendation, but they'll be able to choose whatever options they like.
