I understand the criteria being best selling, or critically acclaimed, or just very appealing to boundless staff.... however, this month I'm astonished by your choice...

Ive scratched my head many times Iris.....LOL

A voting system would be nice where a pool of artists each month could be voted on by us artists for the next months winner. Or something.

BG could pick the 10 or so pool and then we vote.

We're working on something that will drastically democratize the homepage. These considerations for AOTM have been noted but you may not see a change for a while, we only have so many hours.

What are you objecting to? Quality? Prices? Or the fact that it's a photographer?

I personally have no objections to ANY medium...jewelry...mosaic...painting...sculpture...photography...you name it! It is all good.

The thing that makes me scratch my head is this. Here is an artist who has been on the site for over a year and a half without a single sale. He obviously has not put much effort into marketing himself on BG or his prices are so incredibly high that no one is willing to pay them. It could be both. You simply will not do well anywhere unless you work to market yourself effectively and price your work competitively. Either way it is a poor representation of what BG has to offer.

I think new artists could be AOTM as well with a jury system. There has to be a way to make it more fair is what I am voting for. :)

thats quite a point....an artist of the month is also someone whom the new artist look at...he HAS to be inspiring....no matter what he sells...!!!

I think the photographs are absolutely beautiful..and for the size they're in and the fact that they're only one print per photograph (based on his profile description)..they're not too expensive..but yes, some of us here do need to work on our marketing skills..

Ive been thinking about this. I based my opinion of the current AOTM based on how I shop. I was thinking of pricing. For instance, I recently purchase a beautiful custom mosaic piece for my kitchen. When I was looking, I hit many artist's sites. And there was one I remember clearly that had 3 beautiful pieces on the home page of her site, the sizes and prices were stated. I loved the work, but the prices were way to high for me. So I didnt look at any of her other work or ask about a commission. It was that "shopping"..."browsing" perception in that I immediately ascertained that her work was beyond my budget.

So I asked my Hubby to look at the AOTM and see what he thought. He shops differently than I do. He said that when he saw this work, he liked it and thought the photos were very well done. They were pricey and he wouldnt have purchased them, but thought the work was high quality and that would make him "browse" the store to see what else was available of high quality that he could afford.

So in this respect it is possible that there is no easy way to decide what work should be on the front.

However, whatever artist is AOTM I think there should be some criteria with regard to "quality". Good photos are a MUST and that may be the exact reason BG Staff picked the current AOTM.

So based on my limited research and further thought, I am fine with the current AOTM selection.
