My husband spent 2 years in Indonesia working research for his book, "Making Blood White". He lived with a "foster" family while there and they took good care of him. He didnt have to pay them a dime. Warm loving and giving people. They housed him and fed him for 2 years! Find that in America without complaining......
There culture is interesting. He said the men are not afraid of getting very close to each other and even touching each other. They are very affectionate. With each other...not just random strangers or tourists. But the community as a whole. He also said that it is rude to turn away any food or drink that is offered you and that he had to eat some pretty nasty stuff and drink this syrupy liquid tea that they love.
It was HOT and HUMID and they didnt believe in fans, so it was not always pleasant, but overall he really enjoyed his time there. |

Spent some time on the canal Saturday night. We girls went out for Italian then sat by the fireplace outside of Toby Keith's restaurant. The bricktown and canal area had become quite the local scene.
Happy St. Patty's Day to all!!!!!

My friends, Blair and Marlon, teach salsa dancing at Mango's! It is Marlon's mother, Hazel, who owns the International Dance Studio. Hmmm - Paul and latin moves, I'm all for that!
Did you eat out on the canal? My favoite place is Chelino's for Mexican food. The owner is from Mexico and they can make authentic food. I found that out when I was dating Victor, he spoke Spanish when we went to eat there. It was not Tex-mex that night!! |

Bricktown's only Salsa bar. You'll have to get Paul to brush up on those B I N G O latin moves! Ha! LOL!! |

Nope, you DO NOT want to be the volleyball!! It has the face of my frustrations and I fully intend to pound the thing to bits! When it comes to volleyball or wallyball, I am known as the Karen-ator!!
Ooh - that is a tremendous drop in price!! I feel for the sellers and the realtor! There are very few homes in that price range in OK. The very thing that makes the coastal states laugh at us is what has saved OK in the real estate market. We are so slow to change and so cautious - "backward" in fashion and so forth. However, we did not experience the RE Bubble nor the foreclosure problem that is tormenting so many places. I truly feel for the people who are "upside down" in their homes, and owe more than the house is now appraised for.
OKC is renovating our downtown Ford Center hoping to get the SuperSonics to leave Seattle and come to us. Lots of excitement. The Hornets were here while New Orleans was rebuilding, and everyone loved it. We are trying to become a first class city. But I hope we never lose that small town friendliness. I moved here from Phoenix and saw the difference. There is always excitement in PHX. But everyone is very cautious about talking to strangers. Not so in OKC! : ) |
