I once offered to make donate some paintings: to an animal shelter in New York, and again to Green Peace Asia, but never got any response.
Working off of donations themselves, I don't think they have the time or resources to respond to individual artists (who are less renowned than Bono).
Now, if you would all like to band together pick a cause or 2, we could, ...for instance:
call up Unicef say that we have 50 artists who work in a range of styles that want to help. if there are enough of us, we'll have a project.
I might've taken the time to say this last month, ...but right now we have almost enough people for a calendar. |

I really like the idea of using art to benefit charity. I just posted an idea for a contest on boundless that would benefit charity on...Go Boundless - Contest Info, and Ideas. I would love to hear everyone's input on this idea. |

Hi everyone, I've noticed that there is very little discussion within this group (especially compared to some of the other groups on the site!). If you have time, will you please at least add something about yourselves to the 'Areas of Interest' link above? I was really hoping we could use this group as a way to exchange ideas and actually apply them in our own communities. But we're not talking to each other! |

Hi, Jude! I just looked at some of your cat prints and didn't see a mention of charities in the description. Do you just do this on your own and make no mention of it to customers? This is one of the questions I have about sales for charity. I think that if customers see that some of the money is going to a good cause (rather than for the artist's profit), they are willing to pay more, thus allowing more money to be donated. But then there is the question of the legal side of it. What information needs to be included in such a claim, and would you then send a receipt of the donation to the customer? If I were to buy something like this, I would want to know for SURE that the money was actually being donated. What do you think? |

This is a great group! I love cats and dogs and most of the time I donate some percentage on every sales of cat quality prints and original paintings that I am selling to any animal charity institutions. Hope I can share what I can help thru my art. Thanks for this group! Jude artist |

Thanks, Ryan. This leads me to create the 'Resources' board above. Everyone, feel free to add to that page any groups, websites, etc. that would fit the purpose of this Boundless group. |

This was sent to me it seems worthwhile:http://www.artworldproject.com They say they'll split all the proceeds between 3 programs to help needy children.Personally, I am fond of the way that Banksy uses his art to alert people to issues. (He spray paints it on buildings during the night). |

Haydee and Kyle,I've added a few discussion boards. Please feel free to add to them or even to make general suggestions about managing this group. I'm trying to get things going and make sure that this page doesn't become stagnant, but I don't want to be pushy. I'll appreciate all feedback.Haydee, it's good to hear your story. It's amazing how certain events affect us all differently. I think that when something has such a strong effect on you, it shows you where you can be the most passionate and helpful. I had never done any type of volunteer work until about two years ago, but then I found what I felt strongly about, and realized what I wanted - and needed - to do. Kyle, what brings you to the group? Again, thank you both for joining me! |

Hi Cortney: Well, I am not very involved in politics right now, not directly anyway. When I went to college I was an idealist but became very disillusioned, bored and discouraged by the whole process. But I do follow the news closely and consider myself very plugged in as to what is going on in the world. My brother is currently serving in the military and has done two tours through Iraq. What really got me interested in your group though was something that happened to me last week. I was driving to the mall and some veterans were collecting money, one young man was very gaunt and looked quite ill. They were in uniform and walking up and down the street asking for donations to aid in the medical treatment of fellow veterans. This broke my heart. A few days later my eldest daughter was telling me about reports concerning homeless Afghanistan and Iraq War veterans. Personally, to be honest, I do not trust charities very much as it seems the funds always line the pockets of some well of director instead of helping those truly in need. However I would like to help raise awareness as to the conditions the soldiers are being subjected to and the manner in which this country is treating its veterans and if I can use art to do this all the better. |

Haydee,What brings you to this board? What are the groups or efforts that you support? I've read your "bio" and like your work very much - particularly the bold colors that you choose. One thing that I see we have in common is that we each began with a very "practical" focus - you in political science, I in statistics. I'm actually still working in that field, but feel a strong draw toward art and non-profit work. Please let me know if you have ideas for discussion topics. I plan to update this board regularly becuase it's purpose is to actually incite change for the better. Thanks so much for joining!Cortney |
