I am curious as to how many of you (artists) have used Blogs.....and found them to be effective. I can totally understand that the techs use them all the time. But ARTISTS? |

I am an avid blogger and have found it very useful for my career. I started at the beginning of it all and have documented my progress and my feelings, pieces, WIPs and sticking points as well as censorship and nude art news worldwide. it's wonderful to be able to get feedback on pieces and what I am doing as well as to read back over it to see my progress and how I solved issues or worked on things previously.the good thing about a blog is that every post is indexed by search engines so it's |

Hi everybody, thanks for inviting me!A blog for an artist is like a continuously running newsletter, right? Or like a diary? I imagine that buyers would find it interesting to read what's going through our heads.I wonder if it's possible that we could hurt our sales by saying stupid things, LOL. |

Blogging is just another "feature" that allows buyers/collectors/customers to stay informed on you as an artist. "In the online world," it provides a sense of closeness that wouldn't otherwise be there. Knowing more about who they are dealing with [online] makes purchasing decisions easier. Being a blogger is more about personality. For artists it's just another means of expression. "Writing it down" can also clarify thoughts, ideas, etc. and/or aid in working through "hiccups," lags in inspiration, "issues," etc. Making sure that you do realize it is a public display. Editing is a good idea. Bottom line, you'll probably reach more people with it than without it. just my thoughts, -TJ |

I agree, a blog is much more personal than a webpage, it's a great way to reach out to everyone and talk about your work. Mine is a bit like a diary of my works and progress as well as an exploration into nude art and problems surrounding nude art, censorship, riots, etc. it's a forum for me to rant or to rave and reflect on different arts issues and how they relate to myself and my opinions (which are somewhat strong..). the comments give me a different perspective and can spur me on to different things, ideas, mindsets, etc. I use mine to get my head around things.blogs have better Search Engine Optimization (every post is indexed) which means that there is more opportunity to find what you have to say and for others to hear it. every post has an image - usually one of mine, which means that I get my work before a wider audience. my blog articles have been featured in magazines and newspapers and I consider it my |

I've been blogging since the beginning of the year, but really committed to it last month. I've posted everyday since Oct. 29 and intend to continue. It's great practice for communicating to the outside world about my art, plus it's fun and a fabulous marketing tool. Here's my blog link: http://kriscahill.blogspot.com/Please comment on it if you wish. Thanks! |

Jennie and Kris, do you recomment blogspot? Or blogger? Which site out of all the blog places do you think is best for artists? Of course ease of image management would be important.I've been giving blogging some thought because I'm hooked on artists discussion boards. As long as I'm tapping my thoughts away, might as well put it somewhere that some collectors might actually go and read, right?I like the idea of the journal helping sort your thoughts. I know that when I write a description of a painting, sometimes it really transforms my whole concept of the painting.Working at home in the studio and spending so much time on the computer is very solitary, and I like that, but I find myself drawn to this whole online community thing. |

Hi Sally, I recommend wordpress.com personally. the templates are wonderful, there is a fantastic community and it is very easy to use. it's the best of all the free ones in my opinion - I've tried blogger and blogcharm and have never been happier with wordpress.com. I hope that helps! |
