Does anyone know how this is being calculated?

Thanks,
Iris

It varies according to the type of account you have. I'm not sure what you are questioning. I think if you just check your account you'll see how much Boundless takes, how much PayPal takes and your discount coupons may play in.

I think Iris is talking about the new upcoming changes and the additional "up to 5%" gallery processing fee mentioned that will fall on the customer side of the equation, Boundless says to cover increasing costs.

Hi girls, thanks for your answers. no, I don't mean either things you mentioned: If you look at your order details, you will see that in addition to the commission you are paying (percentage according to your plan) there is an additional 'processing fee' that is being deducted from your payment. I figure it's a charge covering boundless processing of the payment, but I didn't find any information about it on the site. It's a percentage - the amount changes according to the price of the painting, but I'm wondering if shipping cost also goes into the calculation, and how it's calculated.

Do you know what I'm talking about?

Yes - the 3.xx% DOES apply to your shipping costs as well - I did the math. I know that's pretty standard for credit card payments - but as for Paypal, I have no idea other that Paypal will take an additional fee beyond that. I stay as far away from PayPal as possible and probably would not use them even if it was the only way to sell online. I was scammed through eBay by a dishonest buyer exploiting Paypal's buyer-biased policies and received NO PROTECTION whatsoever. I apologize for the diversion of subject, but I can't warn people enough. One troubled $15 transaction there and $30 in Paypal fees (plus $15 refund and lost product shipping) and 2 months to resolve it, and you'll understand.

I see your point Ashley, but I have used PayPal for over 5 years with zero problems. Occasionally a person gets rejected for a certain amount and they have to become verified. But other than that it has been great. I am always very aware of the buyer-biased system and that if someone was nasty and did a chargeback I would be out. But I look at it this way....if once every 5 years I get a loser like that and I am out a couple hundred bucks...so be it....cost of doing business. I look at the hundreds of transactions I do a year that people want to use PayPal. I wouldnt turn all of their business away over a small loss.

***Yes...the transaction fee covers the credit card transaction fee that BG has to pay when the customer uses their credit card to purchase.

Alright, so I see, it's sort of like PayPal fee. I get it, thanks!

Wow, Ashley, you were scammed selling your art? It's so crazy and mean.... I didn't have any such bad experience so far, but I know it could happen, it's a risk, but like Sharon says, there is always a risk when you are running a business, very few these days take cash only, and even there - you could get scammed with forged bills!

I see what you mean. Mine calculates about 3.2% of after commission price. (sale price - commission to BG).

I would say it's fair for BG to collect that much because they are doing all the transactions for us. They have to collect money, and then verify the delivery status and send money to us. I think it can be a tedious work to do on daily basis.

I wouldn't be able to function if I have to do all transactions with strangers at all times. I really want to get my hand off from that part and let someone do that. So I am happy to pay 3 percent to BG.

Ya it's the cost of doing business, but I am still hoping it is smoother here then ebay. I am new here and still waiting for my first sale. Trying to think of additional ways to market my stores.
