Since college, I have had some really great experiences trading work with other artists. I am working with a good friend of mine currently to trade custom pieces - and it's fun because we know each other well enough to be as picky as we want. Anyone have thoughts, stories, or suggestions for trading work? |

I think it's really great as long as you can reach a point of relative equality with the trade. It can be a little odd trading in different media sometimes, so I have always tried to trade "time" working on pieces rather than worry about size and media. This has worked pretty well so far, even though people work at different paces. I recently traded a small intricate drawing for a large painting, but both were similar in time spent. |

With the custom piece trade I'm working on, to make it simple we bought the materials for our own piece (I got the frame for my charcoal portrait and she brought the wood panel I will paint on for her). That way, if we wanted upgraded materials or a special size, it wasn't any trouble for the other person and we are getting exactly what we want. |

I trade with my students...the ones that I choose to trade with. It works as a good tool of getting others motivated work smarter.
Naturally, you like your own work best, so I try to match them in terms of what they are asking in price. I don't need more paintings. I just do it for fun.
Don't want to get too distracted. I love whimsy, and I don't take it too seriously. |

I have traded. But the most fun I have had is doing collaboration work with other artists. Mixed media pieces where we each send each other a bunch of "stuff" and then we each have to use the others "stuff" in our own painting. It is so cool to see what creative minds can come up with. And it is a fun challenge. :) |

It seems like a lot of artists have "traded" if you want to use that word, with other artists on BG. Thus the "links" with others. It would be nice if there could be a "trading post" of sorts, where the monetary exchange could be minimized.
I think a lot of artists would participate, especially if they did not have to make the suggestion. Maybe it could just be a note on the website, saying that you would consider trades.
Most of us already collect pieces from friends in our areas. |

hehe there's some interesting collaborations going on on a social art site I'm on. one person starts a piece and it's shipped around the world to different artists who add something on. fun to watch! |
