Does anyone have trouble with warping canvases? If so, what do you do to correct this. I am about to tear my hair out!!!

oh, I thought there was advice here? am I thinking of a different discussion?
ok, quick sum up of my warped (heh) beliefs.
if you can't afford the top of the line stuff, go for thicker canvasses with cross beams, they have less chance to warp.
if you want to brace it yourself, look for something with a neutral PH for archival purposes. mdf in particular is very acidic so be careful.
go for all cotton or all linen canvasses - if they don't say what they were made from they probably have synthetic fibers in them - when these types are woven frequently cotton goes one way and the synthetic goes the other, leading to a tendency to warp.
water is the enemy! but can fix canvas dings with a light spray on the back... (it tightens the fibers when dried)
careful of your storage, obviously don't place them on a very uneven surface or in the damp.. (duh)
don't feel bad if you can't afford kiln dried hardwood and belgian linen - buy the best you can reasonably afford and remind yourself that when you make it big you can paint on the very best of the best. |

yes for now i could 'nt afford linen...but i can try for kiln hardwood...i'll leave linen for future may be...i bought acid free primed fedrix canvas...that is the best affordable quality i could find for now.....i hope it is good and works for years.....i have oil paintings which are still fine and they are 11 years old....i hope the acrylics have longevity too...hope the canvas i bought is good...!!! |
