Hi! Thanks for the invite, too!

I have been selling online for about 3 years and it gets better and better. As a mother of three young children it has been a real blessing! A wonderful time saver.

I used to work in a gallery part-time and I showed work in galleries years ago. The sales can be very slow in galleries and things sometimes get pretty political. But I will probably keep showing in co-op galleries and small local galleries to stay involved in my very active local art scene.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the invite to this interesting discussion.

I've been selling my work online for more than 5 years. I started on ebay and still sell the majority of my work there. I've gotten lots of repeat buyers and several commissions. Lately I've been working with an art wholesaler in my area.

Spending my time painting what I want and listing my work online is a lot more appealing to me than traveling around the country trying to sell my work at art shows or dealing with snooty gallery directors. For me, the very act of painting brings me great pleasure, as I'm sure it does for all of you. Having someone pay me for one of my paintings is the icing on the cake!

I agree with you Caroline about the shipping costs, I have the same problem living in Switzerland and of course big if very fashionable at the moment, but very expensive.

I think the problem is there is a big 'snob' factor for art. It is often something people collect for the future, not necessarily what they love now.
Sometimes art is regarded as an asset or an investment. So the jury is out for me as to whether to play along with that or remain outside of that.

Hi Hengameh, thanks for the invite. I do enjoy trying to sell art on line, I live in a small town and I enjoy the contact with other artists, with regard to selling, I find it difficult living in South africa as shipping can be expensive and I think most buyers overseas would rather buy art from someone closer to avoid the heavy shipping costs. Im not mad about galleries either, I find the people unfriendly, they also either overprice the painting to get a good commission or they tell you the painting is to expensive.

Hi first time scribble!
Art on line I think is great for anyone who just wants to look and maybe feels intimidated in an art gallery setting! Commission is awful in an art gallery, but art on line never shows the true quality - I have no preference but would just love sales!!!!!!

You are right Mindy,I am agreed with you that online sale is easier but the problem is people spend more money on art in galleries and they buy our art with minimum amount online.

Art agents have proven to be a gigantic waste of time for me. I'm always disappointed. I never understand why people can't buy art like they do anything else. What's all the hocus pocus about? I much prefer on line sales. I love a friendly sale. Honesty is what I crave. It simplifies life doesn't it?
