I have one, literally one, I did it in college. I probably wouldn't have done one otherwise. I love to see other artist's self portraits though, so I was thinking of doing a series.I love this Chuck Close Self-Portrait that I added to the Group Photos. |

Maybe everything we paint is a self portrait, but I believe Rembrandt mastered that so why bother. |

I've been painting most of my long and somewhat misspent life. I try to do a self-portrait every year. It seems to help me learn more about myself or at least how I feel about my life at that point as well as letting me know exactly what place my work and style is at that time. I'd like to think they have improved even if I don't. I guess if they were put together, in time, it would be a very Dorian Gray sort of image. I always have encouraged all the painters I know to do the same. There seems to be something very cathartic. Hey, it even has the word "art" in it. Must be good for you. In truth I sort of agree with Melinda. Even if you aren't a painter, every day of anyone's life is just adding to his or her self-portrait. Rembrandt might be far out of my league, but I keep trying. [grin] |

John, I'm a painter...lol. I've made some direct self portraits, and I think it is a noble thing to do. However, I'm not my fixed on it. Too boring for me. I prefer nature. |

Melinda, I do know you are a painter and a very good one. I was sort of rambling and talking to the public in general. Sort of the "royal" you. [grin] |
